Acid Reflux Diet
Patients who suffer from acid reflux can ameliorate their conditions by maintaining acid reflux diets. The acid reflux diet is designed to reduce the symptoms and make the patient recover. High cholesterol and high oil content food should be avoided. This is because they cause irritation on the stomach lining and cause the acid to regurgitate itself into the esophagus.
Although cutting down fat can alleviate acid reflux, this doesn’t mean that you should completely remove food with fat from your diet. Fat is essential for a healthy body. One way to cut down on fat is to use non stick cookware in your cooking. Teflon cookware is not recommended because it can cause the food to stuck at the bottom. You should use non stick pan spray, for example, one that is made from olive oil. Instead of using fat when baking, you can use healthier alternatives such as pureed applesauce, apricot puree, prune puree and etc.
Acidic foods are not good for acid reflux patients. Examples of acidic food you should avoid include orange juice, lemonade, cranberry and tomato. Besides acidic food, you should avoid other types of foods such as ground beef, sour cream, cottage cheese, spaghetti, alcohol, onion, French fries, coffee, tea, salad dressing, and confectioneries.
Cutting down one third of your sugar and salt consumptions can improve the acid reflux symptoms. If you want to eat sugar, you can use herbal sugar instead of processed sugar. Sugar substitutes that are molecularly altered are not suitable as it can worsen your condition. Processed foods are usually rich in sugar so you should avoid them. The stomach cannot digest refined sugar and starches properly. It will end up secreting too many acids into the esophagus.
Most vegetables are good for health and should be incorporate into your acid reflux diet. Leafy green vegetables can give your body many minerals. Not all leafy green vegetables are good for health. Leafy green vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage should not be eaten in large quantities as they can cause gas in the stomach. It is encouraged that you eat vegetables that can be consumed raw. Raw vegetables contain a type of enzyme that helps in food digestion. When you wake up in the morning, you should drink 2 glasses of water.
Acid reflux happens to people of all ages. It is triggered by a variety of causes including sedentary lifestyle, stress, and insomnia. Most people get acid reflux because they eat spicy food. Spicy food is harmful to the intestine and will encourage more stomach acid to produce. You should follow the acid reflux diet if you suffer from this condition. To reap the maximum benefit, you must persist in following the acid reflux diet until your symptom disappears.
